The AssistYou Origin Story
The year was 2018. Amazon Alexa and Google Home had just landed in the Netherlands, and suddenly, talking to your technology was as easy as asking it to play your favorite song or time your morning eggs. For Pepijn and Bram, those first playful voice commands sparked a far bigger idea: what if this technology could do more? What if, beyond the living room, it could revolutionize the way we connect with organizations?
At that moment, voice recognition technology was just starting to support non-English languages with enough accuracy to be useful on the phone. Until then, navigating phone menus meant wrestling with clunky touch tones—those infamous DTMF beeps that made every call feel like a relic from the ‘90s.
Pepijn and Bram saw a future where those beeps would be replaced by natural, flowing conversation. Where automation was not just faster, but friendlier. Where organizations could engage with customers over the phone, not through endless button-presses, but through real dialogue.
And so, AssistYou was born.
From day one, AssistYou dove into the most human of all environments: restaurants. Restaurant Dertien in Rotterdam became AssistYou’s first pioneer, letting their new voicebot take reservations while owners recovered from the night before. Not only did guests get a better experience, but owners got their time back. Word spread. One of the very first users, a manager from Eneco (also Rotterdam-based), immediately recognized the potential for the enterprise world—and Eneco has been with AssistYou ever since.c
